Current Projects

Currently I'm working on a small advance wars like strategy game with C++ and KAJAK3D, which is our schools engine, for two school courses, AI and game programming. I made a four player Pong with it a little while ago for a different course. other than that I have mostly been trying new stuff and studied collisions and game physics.
I've also tried to spark a new game project using XNA with my friends and I've thought of building a simple 2D-Engine for XNA to be used in our games.
Also I'm trying to learn how to use tracker software so I could make my own game music.

Nanobots

This is or was our game for the imagine cup, but due circumstances it was quite unfinished when we entered it into the first round. It's more like a tech demo I coded but hopefully we will finish it even if it doesn't make it's way to the second round.
The tail is made of individual objects that get the position to follow, which is on the piece that comes before it. Because of that it looks very fluent.

Lost Flame

This was our project for the Global Game Jam. It was coded and designed in four man team in a little less than 48 hours. And it made into the top three in our school. The basic idea was to guide the flame to the goal using an inaccurate map, The flame shrunk all the time and the player had to find oil to make the flame bigger, and avoid water for shrinking effect. I was bit more on the designing side on this one as we had an excellent programmer in the team. I programmed the player, some level elements, the behaviour of the darkness around the player and lots of the basic elements like the camera, balancing the difficulty and controlling the animation. We used XNA on this one as well.

Project Shiva

This game started as a game for the same course by two of my friends. I helped a little bit to get the ship to shoot and prototyped the flying which they adapted into the game. After the course we took it as a summer project to make it into a more polished game. I programmed the enemies, weapons, a spawner to keep them coming, difficulty curve, camera, some minor things in the player class and a lot of designing and managing the code. The game was planned as a story oriented game but as time went and we had problems mainly with getting the camera working it ended up as more of a survival game. It still worked well and we won our schools game competition and got to introduce our game in Finnish Assembly event. Again most of the graphics were done by friends. The only graphics I made was a basic design for one enemy, which can be seen in the upright corner.

In this project I learned a lot about collision detection, I made per pixel collisions, box collisions and in the end ended with circular collisions because they were most accurate we could get working without killing the computer. Only the player was left with per pixel collision after shields had been taken down.

Yami No Ou

This was made as a C# School Project, again I coded the game, it was based on microsoft's Platformer kit for XNA and I added some elements in it. The game was about a vampire that drunk tomato juice and the goal was just to make it to the end of the level. The player could throw bats to defeat enemies and turn himself into mist and fly for a while until he run out of tomato juice. Turning to mist also made the player invincible. I got to try some interesting things and while the game wasn't extraordinary it wasn't too bad. Graphics were made by friend again and the music was from a game called "Guilty Gear".



This game was my first trial in XNA and i have to say it's remarkably easy language for simple game programming and good for beginners. I myself learned more programming while making this game than i had in the rest of the first year in my school.

Space Shooter

This was the very first game i have coded, I made the menu, gameplay, and all the functionality. Graphics were made by my friends, and the music was from duke nukem. The game had three different behaviours for enemies and they spawned again right after previous one had gone. bullet were limited for three max in screen and there was a firing timer. It was the first, written in C and SDL, and it did show.

I have taken part in small games with few friends, mostly with XNA, a little bit with c++ and c.
